Eimear is an experienced Irish, UK and European Patent Attorney with particular expertise in the chemistry field.  Starting in Newcastle, Eimear completed her training at a London firm, before moving to Dublin to set up the Dublin office of Definition IP.  Throughout her time in the profession Eimear has worked with a wide range of clients, from private individuals to large multinationals, and for numerous universities and spin-outs. She has extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the chemical and biochemical fields, and she advises clients regularly on freedom to operate and validity issues across these technical areas.  Eimear specialises particularly in patents relating to materials, small molecules and pharmaceuticals, and has a particular interest in environmental chemistry and green technologies.  Eimear is also a qualified Irish Trade Mark attorney, and a European Trade Mark and Design attorney.

Education:

Eimear has a B.Sc. in Chemistry with French from Dublin City University, which included a year spent at the École nationale supérieure de chimie de Montpellier, France. Following her degree, Eimear obtained her Ph.D in Chemistry (also from Dublin City University) carrying out research into pH-mediated sample stacking techniques for capillary electrophoresis.  Eimear’s research was carried out in conjunction with the University of Kansas, where much of her research was carried out.  Eimear subsequently obtained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London before entering the patent profession.
