Claire is the founder of Definition IP and set up the company with an aim of providing clear, commercially-focused advice and services relating to Intellectual Property.

Claire has significant experience of drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications through to grant directly before the European and UK Patent Offices, as well as directing and managing expansive worldwide patent portfolios for multinational corporations through strong relationships with a network of overseas attorneys.  With a background in genetics, Claire specialises in life sciences, with particular expertise in the medical devices, diagnostics and molecular biology fields; including biological assays, DNA sequencing technologies, stem cells and therapeutics. Claire has worked extensively in the medical device and food and drink sectors, as well as in a diverse range of technical fields.

Claire works closely with all of her clients, from start-ups to SMEs and developing companies to provide strategic and targeted advice relating to intellectual property attainment, management and leverage.  She also has significant experience in providing strategic assistance to companies in all technology areas who are going through a period of transition, such as funding stages from seed to IPO, where a well-managed IP strategy can be a significant asset.  Claire has experience in preparing and filing registered design applications and assisting with trade mark and copyright issues, as well as dealing with trade secret asset management, and has extensive experience in conducting IP audits, and providing commercially-focused advice to SMEs and growing companies.



Claire has a B.Sc. in Genetics from Newcastle University.
